Gas stations in Iceland

Posted on May 8, 2009 by

In Iceland the gas stations are located all around the island, but in the most isolated areas, particularly in the internal part, it is recommended to check the distance among them, to be sure you have enough fuel before leaving. Most of the stations are self service, and they accept credit card.
In some areas, as for example Möðrudalur on the North East, the petrol pumps are inside houses made of wood and peat, that look like houses, but have the goal to protect the pumps from the cold.
To get gas from these peculiar gas stations, it’s sufficient to park by the wooden door and take out the pump.
