Ice Climbing in Iceland

Posted on May 3, 2009 by

Iceland is the kingdom of the ice climbing. The itineraries on the glaciers may be easily reached, because they’re close to the major communication routes. They offer exciting tours among astonishing ice formations. The best are:

Glymsgil, on the highest cascade of Iceland, located at the bottom of the Hvalfjördur, on the Western side of Iceland;

Múlafjall, on the Southern corner of the Hvalfjördur, on the Western side of Iceland;

Haukadalur, by Eiríkstaðir, on the road 586, on the Western side of Iceland;

Kaldakinn at Skjálfandi, by Björg, on the road 851, on the North East side of Akureyri;

Öræfasveit, by Höfn, on the internal area.

The best period for this kind of activities goes from November till April. In February the Icelandic Alpine Club organizes the Ice Climbing Festival!
