Since the ‘80s, Iceland has always been promoting research projects for the development of environment- compatible resources and equipment, and it has continued throughout the years to be the World leader in this field. Now, it is again a pioneer -this time in the means of transport.

A new development area is going to be the testing of electric cars, that will most likely define the final deliverance from the use of fossil fuel. A letter of intent signed by the Icelandic Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism and the Mitsubishi Motors in September 2008, allowed to perform tests on a new electric car- with zero pollution issue- the MiEV.

The agreement foresees that the President of Iceland, Mr. Olafur Ragnar Grimsson tests directly the MiEV: this underlines the strong attitude and commitment of the Icelandic Government to search for alternative solutions to the energy problem and to the environment safeguard!

Iceland’s ambitions are high: if the current use of energy is almost completely met by geothermal and water implants, the circulation electric vehicles will indeed mark the beginning of a new age.
