Iceland teaches to Italy how to produce clean energy

What joins Iceland to Italy? May be more than what is commonly believed, but there’s one particular thing that makes these countries closer: the development of clean energy production thanks to the availability of geothermal sources.
Iceland is indeed the first European Country that is self- sufficient as for energy production, thanks to the wise exploitation of its geothermal and water resources. During this latest times, when the Western countries are experiencing the continuous up and downs of the oil costs, the advantage is for sure economical, but not only.
That’s certain that the warmth of the underground and the plenty of water, if properly exploited and if the impact on the environment is limited, are the ideal solution to set to zero the pollution caused by the issue of gases and burnings and at the same time meet the request for energy. And we can for sure state that the Country of Ice is in the van in this field!
Why then not applying the same rule? The idea came to an Italian public manager, Mr. Vendemiano Sartor, District Councillor of Veneto, that thought to use the huge amount of geothermal water of his region, appropriately exploit it to meet not only the clinical and touristic needs, but also a great part of the local energy request.
An example: the basin of the Euganei Hills is 23sqkm wide- the biggest in the world, and it has a homogenous temperature. The Veneto Italian region, that has been already investing a lot in biobuilding, is now developing a plan that allows a wider exploitation of the renewable and eco-compatible energies, that are economically worthwhile to develop; the Regional administration is coordinating the townships in the application of this plan, and considered also the different peculiar characteristics of each area.
In October 2008, Mr. Sartor explained the steps taken by his Region to a Icelandic committee that went to Padua, wishing that a cooperation between Iceland and Veneto may stimulate the wise exploitation of clean energies, such as the geothermal one!
