The old Reykjavík raises between the Faxa bay and the lake of Tjörn, that is surrounded by a nice garden and inhabited by many kind of birds.

Among the places to visit, do not miss: Ráðhós, the town hall, that has a wall map of Iceland with information on the natural aspects of the island; the Lutheran Cathedral of the Eighteen century, that overlooks the Austurvóllur; the central square of the city; Stjórnarráðið, dating back to the Sixteenth century, and that today hosts the offices of the Prime Minister and of the President of the Republic.

Very peculiar is the Kolaportið Flea Market, open on Saturdays and Sundays. Austurstraeti is the street of shopping.
