The Fauna in Iceland
Posted on February 26, 2009 by cinzia
In Iceland there are many kind of insects and a great variety of sea birds. Rivers are populated by salmons and other kind of fish, while in the Ocean there are shellfish, different kind of fish, seals and cetaceans, such as dolphins, killer whales and whales.
Mammals are not autochthon, but were brought to the island by colonizers: among them, there are sheep, cows, horses, elks. There’s no swine on the island. Some white bears sometimes reach the coasts of Iceland because they’ve been trapped on an iceberg: usually they’re shoot.
