Posted on January 13, 2010 by

This crater opened in the Grábrókarhraun, a wide area completely covered by lava. It dates back to 3000 years, approximately. It is the biggest of the three craters that stand along the volcanic split that crosses the lava region.
It has been a protected natural area since 1962 . There’s a path, well marked, that winds across this area.
