The Hekla volcano

Posted on November 11, 2009 by

The Icelandic volcano are structured as a system composed by cones, craters, cracks. In a few cases, the melted magma lays beneath a very thin layer of earth’s crust, very close to the land surface.

One of the most terrible volcano is the Hekla, that the ancients considered as the Door to Hell! It erupts every 8 years approximately. The last eruption happened on February 26th, 2000, and the next one is foreseen by the end of 2009. Some seismic quakes (among whom one had 5km epicentrum in depth and 6.3 intensity on Richter scale) had already foreseen the event!
