The ástarpungar are sweet pancakes, whose name means “lover balls”and is related to a very odd legend.

It is told that in the old times an Icelander married a very beautiful woman, but of loose morals.

One night, the man discovered his wife with a lover and, blind with jealousy, he decided to take revenge. When the occasion occurred, he killed the lover and cut his testicles, then he cooked them wrapped in a sweet batter, without telling this to his wife.
