On January 27th, after Mr. Haarde resignation, the president of the Republic of Iceland, Mr. Grimsson, assigned the mandate to the leader of the Social Democratic Party- Ingibjorg Gisladottir: his task is forming a transition government with the Left/Green Party.

The goal is that this government composed by the Minorities guides Iceland until the new elections, applying the conditions fixed by Fmi, although it will not be easy to resurface, because of the 10% ontraction of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) .

After the Government fell, the survey said the voters’ preference went to the Green Left Wing headed by Steingrimur Sigfusson. The favourites for the upcoming elections are the leader of the Green Left Wing- Mr. Steingrimur Sigfusson, and Mrs. Johanna Sigurdardottir, of the Social Democratic Party.
