Travel with your own vehicle in Iceland

If you decide to take your own vehicle to Iceland it can turn out to be a lot more convenient compared to local rental or transferring by bus or air. If you decide to go to the island brining your car with you, you must take with you the driving license (check in your own country whether you need an International driving license besides your national one), of course, the insurance and the registration documents. Usually in Iceland, if you use your own vehicle for up to one month there’s no local tx to pay; but if you stay longer you have to export your car or ask to lengthen the permission. You can have detailed information at the Tollstjórinn customs office.
